With the advent of summer comes outdoor barbeques, picnics, parades, hot steamy days, etc. In this news issue, you’ll find a number of important dates and times as applicable to our upcoming community homecoming. A few other events are mentioned to keep you informed about some other things that are going on in the community.

As always, feel free to use the website for your own personal and business purposes – it could prove to be a valuable tool for getting the word out on your important dates, selling your goods and crafts, planning your family reunions; and, it’s FREE advertising!


Here’s the Homecoming Week’s Schedule:

• Monday – July 16th ==>  Ministerial Alliance Musical @ Shiloh Baptist Church – beginning at 7:00 p.m. Contact Jerry Bluitt with any questions you might have, at 281.328.1702.

• Wednesday – July 18th ==> King/Queen Contest at the Barrett Community Center – 808-1/2 Magnolia, Barrett, TX 77532 (deadline is Thursday – July 12th @ 12:00 Noon -- get forms by calling 281.328.1581 or 281.328.2289.  Cash prizes, trophies and tiaras will go to the winners!

Banquet & Raffle Tickets

 •  Friday – July 20th ==>  Homecoming Reunion Banquet -- If you need banquet tickets, get them now by calling 281.328.2289 or 281.670.8133. They are going fast at $25/each, so, don’t wait to chance standing in line to purchase on the day of!

We're going to have another explosive guest speaker this year: the Honorable State Representative Sylvester Turner will be guest speaker at our 2012 Homecoming Reunion Banquet! You won’t want to miss this -- Mr. Turner will be speaking on the topic “Re-Investing in Your Community”!! the way, this year's dress attire for the Banquet is whatever color you want to wear -- BUT -- it is still formal. We're excited and hope to see you there!! Oh, and note that the banquet locale is in fact, at the Barrett Community Center, 808-1/2 Magnolia, Barett, TX 77532.

•  Saturday – July 21st ==> 26th Annual Homecoming Parade, starting @ 10:00 a.m. There’s still plenty of time to enter by clicking here OR by calling Parade Chair – Kathy Bass, @ 281.328.4282 or 281.328-2289. VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Although the parade does not start until 10:00, all parade participants are asked to begin lineup at 9:00 a.m.

NOTE: …time to check our neighbor, Mr. Larry Brady!Larry_Brady_-_1st_Place__Automobiles_.jpg  Yes, you see it here -- he’s won 1st Place for two or more years straight, it’s time to “show him who’s boss”! Who will be his challenger in the classic cars competition!!?!  Also, if you’re interested in being a parade judge, call 281.670.8133 or 281.328.2289. We need three (3) unbiased individuals, there’s nothing to it – the process is simple and FUN! We will supply you with judging sheets; all you need to do is watch the parade. Got Talent? Then, bring it on!  There are two opportunities to showcase what ‘ya got. Call now to let us know if you want to appear during the King/Queen contest on Wednesday [July 18th] or wait until Saturday underneath the Pavilion @ Riley Chambers Park – 281.328.2289 or 281.670.8133. Don’t wait until the last minute, your big moment in time is N-O-W!

• Saturday – July 21st ==> Park (booth rental @ $20/booth.  Call the Community Center to reserve your booths, at 281.328.4713.


NOTE: Proceeds from all of these benefits go toward providing scholarships for graduating high school seniors; community beautification and funding of much needed programs for the community of Barrett Station. Again, we would like to congratulate our scholarship recipients: Cameshia McCullough, Rohene LaMark, Orlando Tremayne Pettieway, Devin Rachelle Chambers and Dorothy Rebecca Guillory!

CORE DC is partnering with NAMI-Metro-Houston (One of Houston's affiliates of the National Alliance for Mental Illnesses) to provide a Mental Health Educational Forum on July 20, 21 & 22. This "FREE" forum will be a FIRST of its kind to be offered in our Far Northeast Harris County area.  Attached is a flier with more information and details about this forum.  Feel free to have the announcement made at your church and feel free to make/distribute as many additional copies as you may need.  CORE DC is emphasizing the necessity of an immediate call or email REGISTRATION with name, address, email address, and telephone #. They can ONLY accomodate 20 participants at this time but can schedule as many more forums/appointments as needed.
